  • The opening ceremony is at 12 noon.

Start times will be announced once entries have closed — roughly three days beforehand. For now, the main thing to know is that the finale will take place at around 6pm (give or take).

  • There are a few different carparks in Frome. Our advice is to get there early to secure a spot.

  • Yes. Our amazing sponsors Hiplok and The Scaff Shop have provided two bike-parking locations for the event. You’ll find one on Palmer Street and another at the very top of Catherine Hill, in the finish area.

We will have security guards stationed at both sites, but we can’t offer any guarantees about the safety of your bike. Parking is entirely at your own risk.

  • Where do I go to register on the day?

Attending

  • Absolutely!

  • YES! the event is open for all, and is free to attend.

  • Absolutely — the very top of Paul Street has been set aside as a dedicated viewing area for anyone with additional mobility needs, including parents with prams or pushchairs, and those with little ones in tow. If you’re a bit unsteady on your feet or would simply find it easier to watch from there, just ask one of our marshals and they’ll be happy to guide you.

  • Sure thing, ask the marshals on the day, and they’ll direct you towards the most suitable place.

  • No. The hill is so busy that it wouldn’t be safe for the pets, riders or the crowd, so we ask that people leave their pets at home.

Of course, this doesn’t apply to assistance dogs, and we have a dedicated area for anyone with mobility and additional needs.

Taking Part

  • Head here and follow the instructions…

  • Entry to the Cobble Wobble is only £10 for adults, £5 for under 16s. Bargain!

  • So long as you can ride to the top safely, we encourage riders of all ages!

We even hold a little event called the Cobble Waddle for kids with little wheels. It’s the final 20 yards and they can walk, push, ride, scoot… whatever makes them happiest.

  • Yes! Ride whatever bike allows you to have the most fun.

  • Of course BUT we advise against riding the route during business hours. We kindly ask that people be respectful of other road users, residents and businesses at all times. You should only ride at a pace that is safe for you and those around you, based upon the conditions and busyness of the route. Thanks

About

  • It’s a bicycle hill climb sprint up a steep, cobbled hill in the heart of Frome, Somerset.

  • The Cobble Wobble is held in Frome, Somerset. It starts at the bottom of Stony Street, and finishes at the top of the cobbled section of Catherine Hill.

  • The Cobble Wobble is proudly held in Frome, and Frome alone.

  • From Autumn 2025 the Cobble Wobble will be held annually.

  • The Cobble Wobble event was conceived and created in 2009 by Andrew Denham, a life-long resident of Frome.

  • 179 yards!

(We actually made that number up; we should probably check..)

  • The term King of the Cobbles is used globally to honour the winners of cobbled bike races, and in our case, it signifies the grand finale of the Cobble Wobble (along with the Queen of the Cobbles)—a thrilling showdown to crown the ultimate champion of the event. The evening finale is an exclusive battle featuring category winners and the 20 fastest riders overall.

  • The fastest time ever recorded on the hill is 21.51 seconds!, achieved by Chris Akrigg in 2010.

  • Because there are so many cobblestones on the hill, which wobble when ridden over by the riders who wobble as they ride them.

The event was named in 2009 by Sue Wilthew, the Frome Town Clerk at the time.

  • Loads. Actually, loads and loads and loads….

  • It might be a bit tricky to make it around the left hand bend without taking a high speed detour into Little Walcot, so we’ll stick to going up the hill!
